Once you have signed the publishing contract you
are now a part of a unique family of Intaglio authors. As a
family, we truly recognize the benefit of promoting the
work of all of our authors. Each Intaglio author will work diligently to spread the
word about each new Intaglio Publication through each
author's fan base and various networks of communication.
THE INTAGLIO GROUP
The Intaglio Authors Group is a private group
where all Intaglio authors can discuss the items of interest
concerning their work and the work of the other Intaglio Authors.
Here we discuss marketing and promotion plans, production
schedules and brainstorm other Intaglio Publication related
topics. This group is very unique in that it provides our authors
a means of becoming acquainted with one another and assisting
first time authors through the process of publishing.
WEB POSTING
This topic is one that has been widely discussed
and debated with many publishers. We do not prohibit the posting
of our author's pre-edited stories on the web, however. we do
prohibit the final edited/published version from being posted in
its entirely on the web.
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS
Once you have signed the contract for publication,
you will work with our marketing and promotion's staff in
creating a formal press release concerning your forthcoming book.
These announcements may then be freely distributed to your fans
and on your web sites.
THE EDITING PROCESS
This step will be the most time consuming process
of publishing and will vary based on the state of your submitted
manuscript. This is one reason it is extremely important to have
your manuscript pre-edited prior to submission. Every manuscript,
regardless of the author's publishing experience must go through
this process.
You will work directly with one of our staff
editors to edit your manuscript according to the Intaglio
Publications adopted style guide which is based on the Chicago
Manual of Style, 15th edition as well as various Intaglio
in-house style rules.
The role of the editor is to assist you in
understanding and implementing the various rules of style into
your completed manuscript. Our editors work with Intaglio authors
to create consistency in spelling, grammar and punctuation. Our
editors also provide guidance with regard to plot, readability
and content. The goal of the editor is not criticize or point out
mistakes, but to help you in making your manuscript the best it
can be prior to publication.
THE STAGES OF EDITING
First Round:
The editor will read your manuscript for content,
spelling, grammar and punctuation as well as offering suggestions
on clarifying a thought or process. Our editors utilize the
tracking features found within Microsoft Word to make changes,
offer suggestions or to ask questions regarding a specific
selection. Becoming familiar with and utilizing the way this
Microsoft function works will greatly reduce the editing process.
Oftentimes authors are discouraged and somewhat
overwhelmed by the number of changes within the manuscript after
this first round of editing. Our suggestions is to approach each
change or query one-by-one and the task becomes
tremendously easier.
Round Two:
This part of the editing process encompasses the
changes made during the first round of editing and includes any
additional changes necessary to finalize the manuscript for
publication as well as formatting the manuscript for production.
Depending on the additional edits, we can generally move through
round two in a matter of days.
THE COVER DESIGN
You will work directly with our
graphic artist to provide input into the cover design for your published book.
PRE-PRODUCTION REVIEW
After the editing process is complete and your
book is formatted for production, you will have the final
opportunity to proofread the final production PDF and approve the
production process. It is vitally important that you as the
author review every single page of the production edit as this is
exactly how your manuscript will look in its final printed
format.
You should focus on reviewing this file for
spelling, typographical errors, formatting errors such as
italics, bold and underlines words or characters.
THE PRODUCTION PROCESS
Once the editing and cover design is complete,
Intaglio Publications will assign an ISBN to your book. This
number is a universally recognized number that identifies your
book to retailers, and distributors for ordering. No two books in
the world have the same ISBN number. Intaglio will also create
and apply a machine -readable barcode to the back cover of your
book.
THE RELEASE DATE
While most of the behind the scenes work is
complete at this point, the release date is one of the most
important days of the entire process. This is the day we make
your book available for purchase to bookstores, distributors and
consumers around the world. It is extremely important that the
entire Intaglio family work together to spread the word to
everyone we know.
