Kate Sweeney
She hails from the
Midwest, Chicago exactly, where she's lived most of her life. As for
what she does for a living? In her own words: "It's a bit
unremarkable. I'm an office manager for a small company in the town
where I live. A lesbian version of Walter Middy! I file by day. By
night, I write romantic, passionate love stories and murder
mysteries.. Go figure!
What I like most about the
obscurity of my job, is.. Well it's obscure. Oh, and it pays the
bills.. It also gives me plenty of time to pursue my passion for
writing. Two years ago my boss gave me an old computer. I hooked it
up and sat there for about two minutes staring at the blank screen,
then it started. All the stories, all the adventures that were locked
in my scrambled brain since I was a kid came flowing out. I had
sprung a leak and I've been happily leaking ever since. Well, you
know what I mean."
Fascinated by the power of
the written word, Kate Sweeney has finally put her imagination on
paper. Owing her love of reading to her mother, the author admits,
"She was constantly reading to us, whether it was a short story by O.
Henry or the gossip column from the Chicago Tribune. It mattered
little, she had a way of making a grocery list seem full of
adventure!"

Kate Ryan is a middle-aged, accident prone, ex-private investigator. Emphasis on 'ex' as she and her partner gave up their profession after their last case nearly cost both of them, their lives. They wisely decided to limp away with whatever dignity and body parts they had left. Unfortunately, Kate will forever carry the scar to remind her of her folly that nearly took her life and plagues her heart and soul. Vowing never again to let her emotions rule her reason, Kate decides to go back to her first love, free-lance photography. For the next few years, she exists alone in - "My emotionally detached loop," as Kate proudly calls it. Then all hell breaks loose and Kate drops a loop.
Enter young Dr. Maggie Winfield and her adorable Aunt Martha. Kate literally stumbles into their lives one autumn morning and becomes an unwitting participant in their tangled web. Clues unravel in their small little hamlet and old secrets are sadly revealed. Kate's long forgotten instincts now compel her to untangle this web of deceit. In the midst of all this murder and mayhem, the detached photographer finds herself in a position she never thought she would be in again. It seems the feisty Dr. Winfield is having an unexpected, yet pleasant effect on her. The elusive Kate combines forces with the sarcastic Maggie, as they become the nucleus for this ongoing series.

Price: $16.95
Release Date: December 2006

A Nice Clean Murder,
the second in the Kate Ryan Mysteries series, finds Kate’s

Kate finds this a little suspicious, but as her family, she too
is excited about Mac’s inheritance.
When a young Irishman collapses on Kate’s doorstep, her
suspicions are justified. She is now sure that Mac’s
Uncle Brian did not ‘accidentally fall off the cliff’ as
reported. So, she agrees to accompany Mac and Teri on
their trip across the Atlantic.
It’s good
timing too, since things between Kate and Dr. Maggie
Winfield are a little tense—it seems the elusive Kate is
still chasing her demons.

of murder and betrayal along the romantic, rugged coast
